| Introduction | "If we...wish to reach the mind and heart of Mankind...then we -- seekers, ourselves, for the Truth -- must bring to those who are seeking, the news of a greater work to be accomplished that calls for the whole entire body of their effort." -- Teilhard de Chardin Introduction The events of recent months have served to weaken the "bubble of illusion" in which humanity has labored and suffered. Ever more people are taking pause in their lives to reflect on what truly matters. The intention of the Decade Of The Heart initiative is to lay a framework that unites people who are already taking leadership roles in global awakening with many more who recognize the imperative of social, environmental, and spiritual change. The initiative offers the possibility of diverse practical and social expressions of our greater consciousness in ways that have not yet been widely experienced. It is our belief that this initiative can be embraced and supported by one and all -- from 'ordinary' people in all walks of life to the leaders of our highest social institutions, with a special emphasis on the equal participation of youth. The initiative unites the religious and the secular in a consciousness of the heart, and in so doing energizes people to rise to the occasion of spiritually aligned leadership. Decade Of The Heart promotes the powerful concept of bringing the awakening of the heart to the forefront of every person, community, and nation. Ultimately it provides a grand context for individuals -- in all situations -- to embrace a unifying consciousness, and gives social "permission" to express and create new structures and processes based on this higher consciousness. In what is widely regarded as the most vibrantly "religious" civil society on earth, many have been left out. Modern American society has equated spirituality with religion, and as a large portion of the population has not embraced traditional religious forms, spirituality seems to have lost its place in civil society. Compounding this situation are deep divisions among the many faiths that have a long history in America, and the reduction in modern culture of nearly all relationships to mere commodity exchanges. The Decade of the Heart initiative seeks to address this challenge. |
